EDIT: Pffft, I do not support smoking. :XD: Sorry if that totally came across that way....you're free to your own views about it. :P

Anyhoo....
Another realism painting-from-a-photo thing. :dummy:
I wasn't planning on doing another one, but while browsing I came across this beautiful picture and just HAD to draw it. It was like an involuntary thing. A photo like that is just dying to be painted. ;) So I literally dropped all my other projects and started this.

I love this picture, I really do. :bucktooth:
It's a photograph of the beautiful Australian model, Gemma Ward. I knew she looked a bit familiar, but I couldn't place her until I looked it up on the Vogue website. :XD:

Since I've been getting some questions about my realism stuff, I'll go through what I did real quick. First of all I flipped the picture, because I'm more comfortable drawing faces facing the left. Then I decided to do a color version, so I laid down my flats. Photographers usually use black and white for a reason, in this case to create mood. I didn't want to steer away from that mood too far, so I only used dull greyish colors. Using an acrylic brush and oil brush in Corel, I just kept layering shadows until it looked good, using the photo as a reference. Then I went back in and did some highlights and played around with colors a bit more. Then I moved the whole piece to Sumo Paint (www.sumopaint.com) and fixed the colors/lighting/contrast (Sumo has a REALLY good temperature filter). I moved back into Corel again and did the final touch ups using a default round brush and the dodge/burn tool. :meow:
Everything in this drawing was hand painted. Her hair is basically just a mob of scribbles with an oily brush, and her face was detailed using really small brushes. The dress was all oil and acrylic paint.
I did change quite a few things from the original...She was wearing a few band aids in the picture, but I took most of them off...I also didn't include her freckles or the text on the cup. I'm still pretty happy with this though. :)

Time: 2-3 hours (nonstop :O)
Materials: Corel Painter IX, Sumo Paint
Model is miss Gemma Ward. Art belongs to :iconospreyghost13:
